Survive Long-Term on the Ocean

Managing Food and Hunger

The ocean is harsh. Swimming drains hunger faster than walking, and you're constantly at risk of drowning. Establish reliable food sources immediately: farm crops, breed animals, or set up fishing. Cooked meat and bread are your best options for sustained exploration.

Preparing for Water Dangers

Craft a bed early and place it on your island—you need a spawn point. Carry a water bucket at all times to escape lava or create air pockets underwater. Enchant your tools with Respiration and Aqua Affinity if possible to improve underwater work.

Build a dock or safe harbor on your main island where you can quickly exit the water. This prevents drowning during emergencies.

Expanding Your Territory

As you grow stronger, explore further to find better islands or resource-rich areas. The Nether and End remain unchanged, so you can use them as normal for gathering rare materials and endgame progression.

Keep multiple small shelters on different islands as waypoints. Stock them with basic supplies so you always have refuge nearby. This safety net is essential when traveling across the endless ocean.
