Build Bridges and Connect Islands
Assessing Water Between Islands
Many islands are separated by water that's too deep to wade through safely. Building bridges or causeways lets you connect nearby islands and expand your accessible territory without constant boat travel.
Creating Simple Bridges
For shallow water (a few blocks deep), place blocks directly on the seafloor. Use cheap, renewable materials like dirt, sand, or cobblestone. Walk or swim out and place blocks downward until you reach the bottom, then build horizontally toward your target island.
For deeper water, you'll need to build taller pillars. This uses more materials, so reserve bridge-building for connections between islands you plan to use regularly.
Advanced Connections
Once you have better tools and resources, consider building proper bridges above water level using wood or stone. This keeps you dry and lets you see threats approaching. You can also create underwater tunnels using blocks and air pockets, though this is resource-intensive.
Always mark your routes. Use torches, signs, or distinctive blocks so you can navigate back to your main base if you get lost in the ocean.
