Upgrade Your First Diamond Tool to Netherite

What You Need

Gather a diamond tool (pickaxe, axe, shovel, sword, or hoe) and one netherite ingot. That's it—no upgrade template required.

The Upgrade Process

1. Open a smithing table by right-clicking it

2. Place your diamond tool in the left input slot

3. Place the netherite ingot in the right input slot

4. Collect your new netherite tool from the output slot

The netherite tool will inherit all enchantments and durability from your original diamond tool, so you won't lose any progress. This works for all tool types: pickaxes are especially useful for mining obsidian and ancient debris, while swords benefit greatly from netherite's increased durability in combat.

Tips

If your diamond tool is heavily damaged, consider repairing it with a grindstone or anvil before upgrading. This ensures you get a netherite tool with maximum durability. You can upgrade multiple tools in succession—just gather more netherite ingots and repeat the process for each tool you want to upgrade.
