Keeping Ruined Portals Out of a Server World
Server-Side Installation
This mod changes world generation, which is handled by the server. Install it on the server so that chunks generated by the server skip ruined portals. Clients connecting to the server do not need the mod for generation to work, though keeping it on both sides avoids confusion about what players see.
Existing Server Terrain
If your server world has already been explored, those chunks keep their ruined portals. New chunks generated after the mod is added will not have them. On a long-running server this creates a visible boundary: old areas may contain portals, new areas will not. Decide whether that inconsistency matters to you before installing.
Handling Player Expectations
Tell your players what changed. Someone who expects to find a ruined portal for a quick loot chest or a shortcut to the Nether will be confused when none appear in fresh terrain. If your server relies on ruined portals as a source of obsidian or gold, plan an alternative — villagers, bastion loot, or manual obsidian farming — before you remove them from generation. Also note that the mod does not remove the ability to build a Nether portal yourself; players can still construct one from obsidian and flint and steel as usual.
