Comparing Ore Drops to Vanilla Minecraft
What Changed From Vanilla
In standard Minecraft, mining ore blocks produces raw ore, which must be smelted to create usable materials. This data pack eliminates that middle step for most ores, returning to the pre-1.17 behavior.
Ore Drop Comparison
Overworld and End ores now drop finished materials directly:
- Iron Ore → Iron Ingots
- Copper Ore → Copper Ingots
- Gold Ore → Gold Ingots
- Coal Ore → Coal
- Lapis Ore → Lapis Lazuli
- Diamond Ore → Diamonds
- Emerald Ore → Emeralds
- Redstone Ore → Redstone Dust
Nether Ores Remain Vanilla
Nether Gold Ore and Gilded Blackstone still produce raw ore, requiring smelting—just like in vanilla Minecraft.
Practical Impact
You'll spend less time managing furnaces during early mining operations. Your inventory fills with usable materials instead of raw ore, reducing trips back to base. This makes the mining phase more streamlined while keeping the overall progression balanced.
