Using Campfires to Make a Safe Base Without Torches

Why Campfires Work

Vanilla Minecraft spawns hostile mobs in dark areas. This mod changes that rule: any campfire you place creates a zone where hostile spawns are cancelled, regardless of light level. That means you can build a base in a cave, a dark forest, or a swamp and skip the torch spam entirely.

Placing Campfires Strategically

Place campfires at the corners or center of the area you want protected. Because the protection is a radius around each campfire, overlapping several campfires lets you cover an irregular base shape. Keep in mind campfires produce smoke and can set nearby flammable blocks on fire if they're soul or regular campfires placed under wood — use them on stone or dirt floors to be safe.

Combining With Other Defenses

The mod stops new spawns but does not remove mobs that already exist. Clear any hostiles inside your perimeter first, then rely on the campfire zone to keep it that way. For extra safety, pair campfires with walls or fences so wandering mobs from outside can't walk in. This setup is especially useful for early-game players who lack coal for torches.
