No Hostiles Around Campfire Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get started with this mod after installing it?
Just place a campfire down and it works immediately with default settings. No items, no crafting, no setup needed — the protection zone activates as soon as the campfire is lit.
Does the campfire need to be lit to stop mob spawns?
Yes, an unlit campfire does not provide protection. Light it with flint and steel or a fire charge, and the zone becomes active.
What counts as a hostile mob for this mod?
Anything classified as EntityClassification.Monster, which includes vanilla mobs like zombies, skeletons, and creepers, plus modded mobs that use the same classification. Passive and neutral mobs are unaffected.
Does this mod stop mobs from walking into my campfire area, or just spawning there?
It only prevents spawning — mobs that already exist or wander in from outside the radius can still enter. You still need walls or lighting to keep existing mobs out.
How do I change the protection radius?
Edit the radius value in the mod's config file, then reload or restart the game. The config is generated on first launch and applies to all campfires in the world.
Can I use soul campfires too?
Yes, soul campfires count the same as regular campfires for spawn protection. Any campfire variant that can be lit will create a protected zone.
Does this work on a server, or only singleplayer?
It works on servers, but the config is server-side — clients don't need the mod installed. Make sure the server config has the radius you want, since client configs are ignored.
Why are mobs still spawning near my campfire?
Common causes are an unlit campfire, a radius set too small in the config, or spawners and spawn eggs which bypass natural spawn rules. Check the config file and confirm the campfire is actually burning.
Does this mod affect mob spawners or mob eggs?
No, spawners and spawn eggs place mobs directly and ignore the campfire protection. The mod only blocks natural hostile spawns within the radius.
Will this mod hurt performance or conflict with other spawn-control mods?
Performance impact is minimal since it only checks spawn events near campfires. It generally plays fine alongside other spawn-control mods, but if two mods both block spawns in the same area, results can overlap or conflict — test in a copy of your world first.
