No Expensive Mod FAQ
11 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I remove the "Too Expensive!" message on the anvil?
Just install the mod and the restriction is lifted automatically — no setup needed. The anvil will let you apply or combine enchantments no matter how high the experience cost climbs.
Do I need to enable anything for the mod to work?
No. Removing the "Too Expensive!" anvil limit is the mod's default behavior, so it works the moment the game loads. You only need commands if you want to change the repair cost cap or enchantment rules.
How do I check or change the maximum repair cost?
Use /noexpensive maxLevel to see the current cap, and /noexpensive maxLevel to set a new one. Setting it to 0 makes the mod calculate the maximum automatically instead of using a fixed value.
What does setting maxLevel to 0 actually do?
It switches the mod from a fixed repair cost cap to an automatic calculation. Use this if you don't want to pick a specific number and just want the anvil to keep working at any cost.
Can I combine Sharpness and Smite on the same sword?
Yes — the mod allows normally incompatible enchantment combinations by default. Just put both enchanted books or items in the anvil and combine them like any other enchantment.
How do I allow or block specific enchantment combinations?
Use the /noexpensive compatibility command with PUT followed by the two enchantments to allow them together. This lets you build custom compatibility rules instead of relying on vanilla restrictions.
How do I combine two enchantments that are already at max level?
Enable higher-level combining with /noexpensive combineHigher true. By default this is off, so you'll need to turn it on before the anvil will push enchantments past the vanilla level cap.
How do I check whether higher-level combining is on?
Run /noexpensive combineHigher with no arguments and the mod will report the current setting. If it's false, run /noexpensive combineHigher true to enable it.
Why is my anvil still saying "Too Expensive!" after installing the mod?
Check that the mod is actually loaded and that your maxLevel isn't set to a value lower than the operation's cost. If you set a custom cap, raise it or set it to 0 for automatic calculation.
Does this mod affect anvil XP costs or just the "Too Expensive!" limit?
It removes the "Too Expensive!" restriction so you can still perform the operation at high costs. The experience cost itself is still charged — the mod just stops the anvil from refusing the operation.
Will this mod break vanilla enchanting or conflict with other mods?
It only changes anvil behavior, so enchanting tables and most other systems are untouched. Conflicts are most likely with other mods that also rewrite anvil logic, so test alongside those if you use them.
