Understand Nicknames vs. Real Usernames

How the Mod Distinguishes Names

The Nickname Detector Mod compares player display names against Mojang's official database to determine authenticity.

Real Usernames

A real username is the original account name registered with Mojang when the account was created. This is the name tied to your actual Minecraft account and cannot be changed (though display names can be).

Nicknames

Nicknames are alternative display names that players set. These appear above their character in-game but differ from their registered account username. Players might use nicknames for roleplay, branding, or personal preference.

What the Mod Checks

When you run either command, the mod queries Mojang's database to verify whether the name currently displayed matches the account's original registered username. If it doesn't match, the player is flagged as using a nickname.

This helps server administrators and players distinguish between legitimate account names and display aliases, which can be important for security and community management purposes.
