How to Take a Screenshot and Use the Chat Buttons in Nicephore
Taking the Screenshot
Press the standard Minecraft screenshot key (F2 by default) as you normally would. Nicephore intercepts the action and saves two versions of the image at once: a JPEG copy for sharing and a PNG copy for editing. You do not need to enable anything first — the mod works the moment it is installed.
Using the Three Chat Buttons
Immediately after the screenshot is captured, three clickable buttons appear in your chat:
- View PNG — opens the lossless version inside Minecraft so you can inspect quality before editing.
- View JPEG — opens the compressed version, which is the one you want for uploading to Discord or other size-limited
platforms. - Open Folder — launches your operating system's file browser directly at the screenshot directory, so you never have to hunt for the path manually.
Click any button to trigger its action. The buttons are tied to the most recent screenshot, so if you take several in a row, the chat will show the newest set. If you miss the buttons, you can still find both files in the usual screenshots folder.
Why Both Formats Exist
The JPEG keeps file size low for sharing, while the PNG preserves full quality for editing. Keep both until you have finished uploading or editing, then delete whichever you do not need.
