Nexus Infection FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start the infection in my world?
Place a bed anywhere in your world, and strange visitors will begin spawning near your base at night to spread the corruption. The infection will gradually expand from there, turning terrain into dead blocks and spawning alien plants.
Can I stop the corruption from spreading?
You can slow or contain the spread by crafting and placing wards around your base, which create protected zones. However, the infection cannot be completely stopped—only managed and defended against.
What are tumors and what do they do?
Tumors are infected ground blocks that rapidly corrupt the surrounding terrain into dead blocks and spawn alien plants and red fog. When a tumor finishes corrupting the land above it, a massive underground hive generates beneath.
How do I find underground hives?
Hives generate automatically underground when a tumor finishes corrupting the surface above it. You can identify them by mining down through heavily infected areas or exploring deep underground in corrupted regions.
How do I defeat the Torment Root boss?
Find a Hive Root inside an underground hive and use a Nexium Heart on it to summon the Torment Root mini-boss. Defeat it to obtain the Nexium Tentacle, which lets you instantly break infected blocks.
Where do I find Overgrown Castles?
Overgrown Castles spawn naturally in savannas and swamps as corrupted structures. They contain locked chests that require a Radiant Key to open and hold valuable loot.
What happens to animals in the infection?
Friendly animals are mutated by the plague into hostile undead monsters that attack other creatures and spread the sickness further. These mutated mobs are more dangerous than normal hostile mobs.
What should I prioritize gathering from hives?
Focus on collecting Heartlens and special cores found inside hives, as these are essential materials for crafting wards and other protective items. The Nexium Heart is also crucial for summoning the Torment Root boss.
Do I need the Nexium Tentacle to progress?
The Nexium Tentacle makes mining infected blocks much faster, which is helpful but not strictly required. However, it becomes increasingly useful as the infection spreads and you need to clear corrupted terrain.
Can the infection destroy my structures?
Yes—if left unchecked, the spreading corruption will eventually consume your base and turn it into dead blocks. Placing wards around your base creates protected zones that slow or prevent this spread.
