Set Up Your Own AI Key for Faster Responses

If you want faster, uninterrupted AI responses without relying on the server's shared API, you can connect your own AI provider key.

1. Run /nex-byok status to check if custom keys are available on your server.

2. Run /nex-byok toggle enable to activate personal key mode.

3. Choose your provider with /nex-byok provider — options include Google Gemini, OpenAI, Ollama, or LM Studio.

4. Enter your API key using /nex-byok apikey <key>. Keep this private — never share it in chat.

5. If using a local provider like Ollama or LM Studio, set the connection address with /nex-byok endpoint.

6. Select your preferred model with /nex-byok model <name>.

7. Enable tool actions (if desired) with /nex-byok tools enable so the assistant can check your inventory and surroundings.

8. Test your setup with /nex-byok test to confirm the connection works.

Once configured, your personal key takes priority over the server default, giving you faster and more reliable responses.
