Convert Lava Lakes to Obsidian

Finding a Suitable Lava Lake

Locate a large lava pool in the Nether. Surface-level lava lakes work best since you need water to flow across the lava source blocks. Avoid deep lava seas where water cannot easily reach all sources.

Setting Up Water Flow

1. Position yourself at an edge or elevated point near the lava lake

2. Place water source blocks using water buckets at a high point so the water flows downward across the lava surface

3. The water will spread across the lava, converting each lava source block it touches into obsidian

4. Continue placing water sources as needed to cover the entire lake surface

Harvesting Your Obsidian

Once the lava has been converted, use a diamond or netherite pickaxe to mine the obsidian blocks. This creates a safe, flat obsidian platform that you can use for building or further construction projects.

Tip: Work systematically from one side of the lake to the other to ensure complete coverage and avoid missing any lava sources.
