Build a Nether Canal or Channel
Planning Your Route
Decide where your canal should flow. Mark the path with blocks or mental landmarks. Consider elevation changes—water flows downward, so plan accordingly if you need it to travel long distances.
Constructing the Canal
1. Dig or clear a trench in your desired path
2. Make the channel at least two blocks wide and one block deep for easy water placement
3. Place water source blocks at regular intervals along the channel
4. The water will flow and connect naturally
Extending Your Canal
For longer distances, place water sources every eight blocks along the channel to maintain continuous flow. If you need water to flow upward, create a staircase pattern and place water at each step.
Practical Uses
Your canal can serve as:
- A safe passage through dangerous terrain
- A barrier against hostile mobs
- A transport route (with boats, if compatible)
- Part of a larger building or farm system
Water channels are also useful for pushing items or mobs in controlled directions.
