Finding and Catching Nether Fish

Locating Nether Fish

Nether fish spawn in water sources throughout the Nether dimension. Look for small bodies of water in lava lakes, soul sand valleys, and crimson/warped forests. Fish appear as living mobs rather than traditional fishing catches, so you'll see them swimming or moving across the terrain.

Catching Fish

Approach the fish carefully—they may flee when you get close. You can:

• Use a bucket to scoop up fish directly into a water bucket for transport
• Attack with a sword to defeat them and collect drops
• Build an enclosure with water and walls to trap fish for observation or farming

Different fish species have different behaviors. Some are faster, others more aggressive. Bring a bucket or sword depending on whether you want to capture them alive or harvest materials.

Tips

Fish are easier to catch near their spawn locations rather than chasing them across open terrain. If you're collecting specific species for decoration or breeding, water-filled glass enclosures work well for containment and display.
