How to Make a Wandering Trader Stay Permanently

Find and Prepare Your Trader

Locate a wandering trader in your world. These spawn randomly and typically disappear after a set time period. Once you've found one with trades you want to keep access to, you'll need a name tag.

Apply the Name Tag

Obtain a name tag (found in loot chests, fishing, or crafted depending on your setup). Open the wandering trader's interface and use the name tag on them, just as you would with any other mob. Give them any name you'd like—this is purely for your reference.

Verify They Stay

Once named, the wandering trader will no longer despawn. They'll remain in your world indefinitely, allowing you to return whenever you need to trade. You can now take your time gathering the items required for their trades without rushing.

Tips

  • Name tags can be rare, so consider this before using one on a trader with mediocre offers
  • Multiple named traders can coexist in your world
  • The trader will still occupy a mob slot, so be mindful if you're near your mob cap
