Set Up a Named Pet or Farm Animal

Naming Your First Pet

Keeping track of individual pets and farm animals is much easier with custom names:

1. Tame or capture the mob you want to name

2. Hold a name tag in your hotbar

3. Right-click the mob to open the naming screen

4. Type a memorable name (example: Fluffy, FarmCow_1, or &c&lBoss)

5. Confirm the name

The mob will now display its custom name above its head.

Organizing Multiple Animals

For farms with many animals, use consistent naming patterns:

• Name cows: Cow_Milk_1, Cow_Milk_2, etc.
• Name horses: Horse_Fast, Horse_Cargo
• Use color codes to categorize by purpose: &a for breeders, &c for workers

Protecting Your Investment

Named mobs are now safer to keep:

• If your pet dies, the name tag drops and you can reuse it
• You can remove names with shears if you need to repurpose a tag
• Named mobs won't lose their identity if something goes wrong
