How to Configure Name Tag Tweaks (Drop Behavior and Command Toggles)

What You Can Change

Name Tag Tweaks exposes a few config options that change how the mod behaves. These are useful if you want vanilla-like behavior in some areas but not others.

The Options

  • droppedNameTagbyEntityKeepsNameValue (default true): When true, a name tag dropped by a dying named entity keeps its name. When false, the dropped tag is blank.
  • enableNameTagCommand (default true): When true, the /nametag <name> command is available. When false, players must use an anvil to rename tags.
  • nameTagCommandReplaceUnderscoresWithSpaces (default true): When true, underscores typed in the command become spaces in the resulting name. When false, underscores stay as underscores.

How to Edit the Config

1. Locate the mod's config file in your Minecraft instance's config folder.

2. Open it with a plain text editor.

3. Change the values you want (true/false).

4. Save the file and restart the game (or reload if the mod supports it).

Common Setups

  • Survival-friendly: keep drop-keeps-name on, keep the command on, keep underscore replacement on.
  • Vanilla-purist: turn the command off so renaming still requires an anvil.
  • Server economy: turn drop-keeps-name off so named tags are consumed on death, making tags more valuable.
