Name Tag Tweaks Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I get my name tag back after naming a mob?
Kill the named entity and it will drop its name tag on death. If droppedNameTagbyEntityKeepsNameValue is enabled (the default), the dropped tag keeps the name you gave it, so you can reuse it right away.
How do I rename a name tag without an anvil?
Use the /nametag command while holding the name tag. The command changes the tag's stored name directly, no anvil or XP required, as long as enableNameTagCommand is left on.
Why does my /nametag command have underscores in the name?
By default the mod replaces underscores with spaces, so /nametag my_pig becomes "my pig". If you want the underscores to stay, turn off nameTagCommandReplaceUnderscoresWithSpaces in the config.
What is the crafting recipe for a name tag in this mod?
The mod adds its own crafting recipe so you can make name tags instead of only finding them in dungeon chests or trading. Check the recipe book or the mod's recipe screen in-game to see the exact layout.
Can I turn off the name tag dropping when mobs die?
Yes. Set droppedNameTagbyEntityKeepsNameValue to false in the config if you want dropped tags to lose their name, or disable the drop behavior entirely through the mod's config options.
Does the dropped name tag keep the custom name?
Yes, by default. The config option droppedNameTagbyEntityKeepsNameValue defaults to true, so a pig named "Bacon" drops a name tag still reading "Bacon".
How do I disable the /nametag command?
Set enableNameTagCommand to false in the mod's config file. The command will no longer be registered, and you'll need to use an anvil to rename tags again.
Does this mod work on a server?
Yes, but it needs to be installed on the server for the drop behavior and command to work for all players. Clients connecting to a server without the mod won't see the custom behavior.
Will named mobs still drop their name tag if I kill them with a named weapon?
Yes, the drop is based on the entity having a custom name, not on how it dies. Any named mob killed by any means will drop its name tag, subject to your config settings.
Does this mod cause lag or performance issues?
No, the mod only hooks into entity death events and adds a single command, so the performance impact is negligible. It's a lightweight tweak mod rather than a content-heavy one.
