Name Fabric Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I use the /namehistory command?
Type /namehistory in chat, replacing with the player's current or past username. The mod will display a list of all previous usernames that account has used, in chronological order.
What does /getuuid do and why would I need it?
The /getuuid command returns the unique identifier (UUID) of any player by username. Server administrators often need UUIDs for banning, whitelisting, or managing player data files.
Can I download skins from players who have custom skins?
Yes, use /getskin to download any player's current skin file. This works for custom skins uploaded to skin servers as well as default skins.
How do I apply a downloaded skin to my own character?
After using /getskin, the skin file is saved to your mod folder. You can then upload it through your Minecraft launcher's skin settings or use it with other skin management mods.
Do these commands work with offline-mode servers?
These commands rely on Mojang's API to fetch player data, so they only work on online-mode servers where usernames are authenticated through Microsoft's servers.
What happens if I try to get info on a username that doesn't exist?
The mod will return an error message indicating the player was not found. Make sure you're using the exact current username, as the commands are case-sensitive.
Can I get a cape from a player who doesn't have one?
If a player has no cape equipped, the /getcape command will fail or return nothing. Capes are only available for players who have purchased them or earned them through special events.
Is there a cooldown or rate limit on these commands?
The mod respects Mojang's API rate limits to avoid spam. If you query too many players in a short time, you may temporarily receive errors until the limit resets.
Do I need operator permissions to use these commands?
No, these commands are available to all players by default. Server administrators can configure permission levels if needed through their server settings.
Will this mod work with other mods that modify player skins or capes?
Yes, Name Fabric Mod simply retrieves data from Mojang's servers and doesn't conflict with cosmetic mods. However, other mods that override skin rendering may affect how downloaded skins appear.
