How to Compose and Share a Song with Music Sheets
Plan the Song
Decide the instruments first. A typical arrangement uses a melody instrument (Flute, Violin, Trumpet), a harmony instrument (Guitar, Piano, Organ), a bass (Bass Guitar, Cello), and percussion (Drum Kit, Cymbal, Chimes).
Build It Layer by Layer
1. Write the melody on a Music Sheet first. Keep it simple; one note at a time.
2. Add a bass line on a second track, using longer notes.
3. Add chords or harmony on a third track.
4. Add percussion last, matching the tempo you set.
5. Play the sheet and listen. Fix timing before adding more layers.
Sharing
- Music Sheets are items, so you can trade them, store them in chests, or duplicate them for other players.
- Place a Music Box in a public area and load the sheet so visitors hear the song.
- If the mod supports exporting sheets to files, export to the mod's music folder so others can copy the file into their own instance.
Tips
- Name your sheets clearly so you can find them later.
- Keep a backup copy of any song you're proud of before editing.
- Test the song with the instruments you actually have placed; a sheet written for an Organ sounds different on a Banjo.
