Multiverse Netherportals Plugin FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Do I need to do anything special to set up the plugin or does it work automatically?
The plugin works automatically once installed—it will detect your worlds and auto-link any that have matching names (like world and world_nether). If your worlds don't follow this naming pattern, you'll need to manually link them using the plugin's commands.
How do I make a portal go to a specific world instead of the default one?
Build your portal normally with obsidian, then use the plugin's linking command to specify which world that portal should connect to. The exact command syntax is in the Link a Nether Portal to a Specific World guide.
Can I have multiple Nether dimensions, one for each world?
Yes, that's the main feature—each world automatically gets its own Nether dimension. Portals in World A will only lead to World A's Nether, and portals in World B will lead to World B's Nether.
What if my portal is taking players to the wrong world?
This usually happens if worlds aren't properly linked or if the plugin didn't auto-detect matching world names. Check the Troubleshoot Portals Taking Players to Wrong Worlds guide, or manually re-link the portal to confirm it points to the correct destination.
How do I change how far players travel when they go through a portal between worlds?
The plugin lets you adjust scaling rules for distance calculations between normal worlds, the Nether, and other dimensions. See the Adjust Portal Travel Distance Between Worlds guide for the specific configuration options.
Do I have to use obsidian and flint and steel, or can I use other methods to make portals?
You build portals the same way you normally do in vanilla Minecraft—obsidian frame and flint and steel to ignite it. The plugin doesn't change the building process, only where the portal takes you.
Will this plugin work if I have custom dimensions or skylands?
Yes, the plugin supports custom dimensions and can apply custom scaling rules to them. You may need to manually configure how distance works between your custom dimensions and the standard worlds.
What happens if two worlds have the same name—will the plugin get confused?
The plugin relies on unique world names to auto-link correctly, so having duplicate names will cause linking issues. Make sure each world on your server has a distinct name, or manually link portals to avoid confusion.
Can players build their own portals and have them work, or do admins have to set everything up?
Players can build portals normally, but they'll follow whatever linking rules are already configured—admins control which portals go where. If you want players to build portals freely, set up the world links first so their portals automatically work correctly.
Does this plugin affect performance or cause lag on servers with many worlds?
The plugin is designed to handle multiple worlds efficiently, but performance depends on your server's resources and how many portals are active. If you experience issues, check that your world scaling settings are reasonable and that portals aren't being triggered excessively.
