Most furniture is made at a crafting table using wood planks, wool, and other vanilla materials, with each wood type producing its own variant. Check the recipe book or JEI/REI for the exact layout of the piece you want.

Each wood variant is crafted separately from its own planks, so you can't recolor an existing piece. Craft the version that matches the wood you want, or use a mod like a crafting tweak if you need to convert.

Right-click the chair while holding nothing, or simply right-click it, and your player will sit down. Sneak to stand back up.
