How to Configure More Villagers (Disabling Professions, Trades, and Spawns)

What the Config Controls

More Villagers ships with a configuration file that lets you toggle individual professions, adjust trade availability, and control whether modded villagers spawn naturally in villages. If you only want the Mining Bench and Oceanography Table but not the rest, the config is where you turn the others off. Changes usually require a game restart to take effect.

Editing the Config Safely

1. Launch the game once with the mod installed so the config file generates.

2. Close the game completely.

3. Open the config file in a plain text editor.

4. Change only the values you understand — booleans are true/false, lists use commas.

5. Save and relaunch. If something breaks, delete the config and let it regenerate.

When to Touch the Config

  • Server admins who want a vanilla-feeling economy can disable the more powerful trades.
  • Modpack authors use it to gate professions behind progression.
  • If a specific workstation is causing lag or conflicts, disabling just that profession is cleaner than removing the mod.

Troubleshooting

If a profession still appears after disabling, check for a second config file in the world's serverconfig folder — servers override the global config.
