Dealing with Mob Spawning Under Giant Trees
Understanding the Shadow Problem
Giant trees have such dense canopies that sunlight barely reaches the ground beneath them. This creates dark pockets where hostile mobs spawn during the day—especially spiders, which normally avoid daylight. This happens even in bright, open forests.
Lighting Solutions
Place torches, lanterns, or other light sources around the base of giant trees to prevent mob spawning. Space lights close enough that no dark corners remain. Alternatively, use slabs or other blocks to create a lit floor beneath the tree.
Preventive Measures
If you're harvesting a giant tree, light the area thoroughly before you start. Mobs can spawn while you're working, creating dangerous situations when you're high up in the canopy. Consider clearing hostile mobs from the area first, then maintaining lighting as you harvest.
For decorative giant trees near your base, consistent lighting is essential for safety and comfort.
