More Compostable Items Data Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start composting with this data pack?
Place a composter block and either drop items into it directly, or set up a hopper on top pointing downward to feed items automatically. Both methods work with the new compostable items added by this data pack.
What's the difference between 10% and 30% chance items?
Items with a 10% chance fill the composter more slowly, while 30% chance items fill it faster. The percentage determines how much the composter's fill level increases each time an item is composted.
Can I compost rotten flesh and other mob drops?
Yes, this data pack adds composting support for rotten flesh, phantom membranes, and other mob loot that wasn't compostable in vanilla. Check the full item list to see which mob drops are now compostable.
Do I need to do anything special to enable the data pack features?
No, once the data pack is installed and loaded, all new compostable items work automatically in any composter. You can start composting right away without any setup.
Can I compost food items like poisonous potatoes and chorus fruit?
Yes, the data pack adds composting for foods and food-related items including poisonous potatoes, chorus fruit, and popped chorus fruit. These are useful for converting unwanted food into bone meal.
Does dropping items into a composter work the same as using a hopper?
Yes, both methods work identically with this data pack. You can drop items directly into a composter or use a hopper on top—whichever is more convenient for your setup.
What should I do with all the dyes I don't need?
Compost them! All dyes are now compostable at a 10% chance, making it an easy way to convert excess dyes into bone meal.
Will this data pack cause lag or performance issues?
This data pack uses vanilla composting mechanics and adds no new blocks or entities, so it should have no noticeable performance impact even with many composters running.
Can I use this data pack with other mods or data packs?
This data pack works with vanilla Minecraft and should be compatible with most other data packs, though conflicts are possible if another pack modifies composting mechanics. Test it in your world to be sure.
Why can't I compost certain items I expected to work?
The data pack only adds items that fit vanilla composting logic—items that are naturally organic or food-related. Check the full item list to see exactly what's supported, as some items may not be included by design.
