How to Increase Your Minecraft Chat History Beyond the Default Limit
What the Mod Changes
Vanilla Minecraft only keeps a small rolling buffer of recent chat messages. Once that buffer fills, older messages are gone for good. More Chat History Mod replaces that small buffer with a much larger one, so messages from a long AFK session or a busy multiplayer server stay readable far longer.
Checking That It's Working
1. Join any world or server.
2. Open chat with the chat key and scroll up using your mouse wheel or the page-up keys.
3. Keep scrolling. With the mod active you should be able to travel back through thousands of messages instead of hitting a hard stop after a short scroll.
4. If scrolling stops almost immediately, the mod isn't loaded — check that it's in your mods folder and that your loader matches the mod's supported version.
Practical Tips
- The larger history is stored in memory, so it resets when you leave the world or disconnect from a server. It is not a permanent log.
- On servers with heavy chat traffic, the bigger buffer is most useful when you step away and return — you can scroll back to see what you missed.
- If chat feels laggy while scrolling on a low-end machine, remember the buffer is much larger than vanilla, so scrolling further back takes more rendering work.
