Fixing Chat History That Resets or Doesn't Extend

Why History Disappears

The most common confusion is expecting chat to persist forever. More Chat History Mod enlarges the in-memory chat buffer; it does not save chat to disk. Leaving the world, disconnecting from a server, or closing the game clears everything.

If the History Isn't Longer Than Vanilla

1. Confirm the mod is actually loaded — check your mod list in-game or your mods folder.

2. Make sure you're running the correct mod loader (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, etc.) for the build you downloaded; a mismatched loader means the mod silently does nothing.

3. Verify the mod version matches your Minecraft version. A version mismatch can prevent loading.

4. Restart the game fully after adding or updating the mod.

5. Rejoin a world and scroll up in chat to test.

If Chat Behaves Strangely

  • Other chat-modifying mods can conflict. Temporarily disable them and test with only More Chat History Mod enabled.
  • On servers, some plugins alter chat formatting; this usually doesn't block the mod but can change how lines look.
  • If scrolling stutters, it's simply the cost of a much larger buffer — reduce other overlays or accept slower scrolling on weak hardware.
