Transport Lava Safely Without Losing Your Bucket

Why Gold Buckets Matter

Iron and diamond buckets can hold lava, but they're permanent and don't stack. Gold buckets offer a middle ground: they safely carry lava for 32 uses and can be repaired, making them ideal for mid-game lava transport.

Craft and Use a Gold Bucket

Arrange five gold ingots in a V-shape at your crafting table, just like other bucket recipes. Right-click on lava to collect it. Your gold bucket will safely hold the lava without taking heat damage.

Repair When Durability Runs Low

Place your damaged gold bucket in a crafting grid alongside gold ingots to restore its durability. This is cheaper than crafting a new bucket each time.

Enchant for Extended Use

For longer-lasting lava transport, enchant your gold bucket with Thermal Shield at an anvil to guard against heat damage, or Conservation to reduce durability loss per operation. These enchantments stack, letting you carry lava much further before needing repairs.
