How to Get Mushroom Stew and Milk from a Mooshroom

Mooshrooms are the only mob that gives you mushroom stew on demand, and they also produce milk like a normal cow. Here's how to farm both.

Milking a Mooshroom

1. Craft or obtain a bucket.

2. Right-click the mooshroom with the empty bucket.

3. You receive a bucket of milk, exactly as you would from a cow. This works on both the red and brown mooshroom variants.

Milk clears status effects when drunk, so keep a few buckets on hand for emergencies.

Harvesting Mushroom Stew

1. Get a bowl (crafted from planks).

2. Right-click the mooshroom with the bowl.

3. You get a bowl of mushroom stew, and the mooshroom loses one of the mushrooms on its back.

Each mooshroom carries a limited number of mushrooms, so you can only milk stew a few times before it runs out. To restore them, feed the mooshroom wheat — it regrows its mushrooms and becomes harvestable again. This makes a penned mooshroom plus a wheat farm a renewable stew source.

Shearing for Mushrooms

If you shear a mooshroom with shears, it drops its mushrooms and turns into a plain cow. Only do this if you want the cow, because the transformation is permanent for that animal.
