Troubleshoot Shader Performance Issues

Identifying Performance Problems

If your game stutters, lags, or crashes when shaders are enabled:

1. Check your FPS counter (F3 key) to see how much performance you've lost

2. Note whether lag occurs everywhere or only in specific conditions (e.g., near water, in caves)

Reducing Shader Load

  • Switch to a lighter shader pack — some shaders are optimized for lower-end hardware
  • Lower your render distance in Video Settings
  • Disable shader features if the shader pack provides options (some have toggles for shadows, reflections, etc.)
  • Reduce graphics settings — lower resolution, fewer particles, and simpler textures help

Compatibility Check

Ensure Embeddium, Iris, and Monocle Mod are all up to date and compatible with your Minecraft version. Conflicts with other mods can also cause performance drops. Try disabling non-essential mods to isolate the issue.

If crashes persist, try a different shader pack to determine if the problem is mod-related or shader-specific.
