Monocle Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need Iris and Embeddium installed for this mod to work?
Yes, both Iris and Embeddium are required parent mods. Monocle Mod acts as a compatibility layer between them, so the mod will not function without either one installed.
Why can't I see the shader options in my video settings?
Make sure all three mods (Monocle, Iris, and Embeddium) are installed and loaded. If they're all present, try creating a new world or restarting your game, as shader options sometimes don't appear until a world is loaded.
Can I use this mod with Forge instead of NeoForge?
No, Monocle Mod is designed specifically for NeoForge. Forge users cannot use this compatibility layer.
My game crashes when I enable shaders. What should I do?
First, try disabling the shader pack and restarting the game to confirm it's shader-related. Then check that your GPU drivers are up to date and that you have enough VRAM available, as shader packs are memory-intensive.
How do I install shader packs with this mod?
Place shader pack files (.zip format) into your shaderpacks folder, then open the video settings menu and select your shader pack from the shader options screen.
Will shaders affect my FPS?
Yes, shader packs significantly increase the computational load on your GPU, which will reduce FPS depending on the shader's complexity and your hardware. You can adjust shader settings or switch to lighter shader packs if performance is an issue.
Can I use Monocle Mod on a multiplayer server?
Shaders are client-side only, so you can use them on any multiplayer server without needing the server to have the mod installed. Only your client needs Monocle Mod, Iris, and Embeddium.
Why do some shader packs not work or look broken?
Not all shader packs are fully compatible with Embeddium. Check if the shader pack is known to work with Embeddium, and try updating both the shader pack and your mods to their latest versions.
How do I disable shaders without uninstalling the mod?
Open your video settings and select "Off" or "None" from the shader options menu. This disables shaders while keeping the mod installed.
Do I need to allocate more RAM for shaders to work?
Shaders primarily use GPU memory rather than system RAM, but having adequate RAM (at least 4GB allocated to Minecraft) helps prevent other performance issues. The main bottleneck is usually your GPU's VRAM.
