Using the Mod on a Server Without Client-Side Installs

Why Clients Do Not Need It

This mod only adds server-side command handling. The /data command already exists on the client, so vanilla clients can connect to a server running the mod and everything works. You do not need to ask players to install anything.

That means you can drop it on a server, restart, and immediately start using the extended data commands as an operator. Players joining with an unmodified client will not see errors or missing-command messages.

Permission and Safety Considerations

Because these commands can rewrite player data, restrict access. Only give the relevant permission level to trusted staff. On a server, an accidental set on the wrong tag path can corrupt a player's inventory or stats, and there is no built-in undo.

Before running bulk or risky edits, take a world backup. If you are scripting commands through a command block or function, test the exact syntax in singleplayer first, then copy it over.

Remember that some data is only read when a player logs in. If a change does not appear to take effect immediately, have the player disconnect and reconnect so the server re-reads their data.
