How to Change Game Mode Button Border Color and Thickness

Where the Button Styling Lives

The game mode buttons on the world creation screen — Survival, Hardcore, Creative, and the others — can be restyled by Modern World Creation. Both the border thickness and the border color are configurable, which lets you make the selected mode stand out or tone the whole row down to match a resource pack or UI theme.

Editing the Border Settings

1. Close Minecraft completely.

2. Open .minecraft/config/modernworldcreation/config.cfg in a plain text editor.

3. Locate the button customization entries. You will find one for border thickness and one for border color.

4. For thickness, use the value format the file already shows — keep it within the range the mod accepts rather than picking an arbitrary large number, since an oversized border can overlap the button label.

5. For color, enter the value in the same notation the existing entry uses. Copy the format of the default value exactly and only swap the color portion.

6. Save the file and relaunch the game.

Checking the Result

Open the world creation screen and look at the game mode row. If the border is invisible, your color value is likely fully transparent or malformed — revert to the original value and change one thing at a time. Remember a restart is needed after every edit, so batch your changes before relaunching to save time.
