Modern Beta Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I create a world with Beta 1.7.3 terrain?
When creating a new world, look for the world type or preset selector and choose 'Beta 1.7.3' from the available chunk generators. The mod will then generate terrain matching that classic version's style.
Can I use this mod on a multiplayer server?
Yes, Modern Beta has server-side support. Install the mod on your server, configure the world type in your server settings, and clients can connect without needing the mod installed themselves.
Why does my world look different from actual Beta Minecraft?
Make sure you've enabled the Beta sky/fog colors and Beta biome colors in your client rendering options—these are what give worlds that authentic classic look. Without them, the terrain generates correctly but the visual appearance will feel more modern.
What's the difference between all these Infdev dates?
Each Infdev date represents a different snapshot of terrain generation from that development phase, with varying world sizes, terrain features, and biome behavior. Try different dates to see which classic generation style you prefer.
Do I need to install this on my server and my client?
You only need to install it on your server. Clients can join and experience the classic terrain generation without the mod, though they won't see the classic sky and fog colors unless they also have the mod installed.
Can I switch terrain generators in an existing world?
You cannot change the chunk generator of an existing world without external tools. Create a new world with your desired generator instead, or use a world conversion tool if available.
Does this mod add new blocks or items?
No, Modern Beta only re-implements classic terrain generation and rendering options. It doesn't add any custom content, so it's compatible with other mods and won't clutter your creative inventory.
Why is my fog so thick I can barely see anything?
Check if you've enabled the old fog colors option—this can make fog appear denser. You can toggle it off in the rendering options if you prefer better visibility.
Can I use Modern Beta with other world generation mods?
Modern Beta should not be used alongside other chunk generator mods, as they conflict over which generator creates terrain. Choose one world generation mod per world.
How do I see which version of Minecraft terrain I'm playing?
Enable the option to render the game version in the top-left corner of your window in the client rendering settings, and it will display which classic version your current world is using.
