MmdSkin Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I load my first model into the game?
Place your PMX or PMD model file in the designated models folder, then use the mod's model loader (usually accessed through a menu or command) to select and apply it to your player character. The model will replace your blocky appearance immediately.
Where do I put model files so the mod can find them?
Model files should go in the MmdSkin models directory, typically located in your Minecraft config or mods folder—check the mod's documentation for the exact path on your installation. The mod will scan this folder when you open the model selection menu.
Can I use PMD files or only PMX?
Both PMD and PMX files are supported by this mod, though PMX is the more modern format and generally recommended for better compatibility and features.
How do I make my character play a dance or custom animation?
Load a VMD animation file through the mod's animation menu, then apply it to your character—you can layer multiple animations together to blend actions like walking while dancing. The animation will play when you trigger it or automatically depending on how you've configured it.
Why does my model look blocky or wrong when I load it?
This usually means the model file is corrupted, incompatible, or the mod didn't load all the textures correctly—try re-downloading the model, checking that textures are in the same folder, or verifying the file is a valid PMX/PMD format. If the model works in other MMD software, the issue is likely a mod configuration problem.
What's cell shading and how do I turn it on?
Cell shading is a cartoon filter that makes your model look painted and flat like an anime—you can enable and adjust it through the mod's graphics settings to control the outline thickness and color intensity.
Does physics work on all models or only some?
Physics (hair bounce, cloth movement, accessory swaying) works on any model that has bones set up for those parts in the PMX/PMD file—if your model doesn't have physics bones defined, those parts won't move naturally.
Can I use this mod with Touhou Little Maid?
Yes, MmdSkin has built-in compatibility with Touhou Little Maid to replace the maid models with custom anime characters, but you need to configure the integration in the mod settings.
Will this mod make my game lag?
Detailed 3D models and physics calculations do use more resources than vanilla Minecraft, especially with multiple animations running—if you experience lag, try reducing physics quality, disabling cell shading, or using simpler models.
Can other players see my custom model or just me?
Only you see your custom model on your client; other players on a server will see your character as normal unless they also have the mod installed with the same model loaded.
