How to Protect Your Armor From Thorns and Soul Speed in Misc Tweaks

Two vanilla enchantments quietly chew through your gear durability: Thorns damages your own armor every time it reflects damage, and Soul Speed wears down your boots as you run on soul sand and soul soil. Misc Tweaks removes both durability costs.

What the Tweak Does

• Thorns no longer consumes durability on the armor piece that triggers it when you take a hit.
• Soul Speed no longer consumes durability on your boots while you move across soul sand or soul soil.

Both enchantments still function normally — Thorns still reflects damage, and Soul Speed still gives you the speed boost. Only the self-damage is gone.

Why This Matters

Thorns is normally a trap enchantment for long-term gear because every hit you take shortens the life of your chestplate, leggings, or helmet. With this tweak, a fully enchanted Thorns set lasts as long as an unenchanted one. Similarly, Soul Speed boots used to be a consumable in the Nether — now they last indefinitely as long as you don't take other durability damage.

What Still Damages Your Armor

Regular mob attacks, falls, fire, lava, and other environmental sources still reduce durability as usual. Only the enchantment-triggered wear is removed. Mending still works normally, so you can keep your gear topped up through XP as before.
