How to Make Elytra Water Landing Trigger Swimming in Misc Tweaks
Vanilla behavior when you fly into water with an Elytra deployed is awkward: you keep "gliding" underwater, which drains your speed and makes it hard to surface. Misc Tweaks changes this so that hitting water while gliding puts you into the normal swimming state instead.
What Changes
When your Elytra-equipped player touches water while gliding, the mod cancels the glide and switches you to swimming. You keep your forward momentum, but you're now in the standard swim pose and can use the usual swim controls.
How to Use It
1. Fly toward a body of water with your Elytra deployed as normal.
2. Let yourself hit the water surface — don't try to pull up at the last second.
3. As soon as you touch water, you'll be swimming. Use your sprint key plus forward to swim fast, and your jump key to rise toward the surface.
This is especially useful for ocean travel: you can dive from high altitude straight into the sea and immediately start swimming toward your destination instead of fighting the glide state. It also helps when you misjudge a landing near a shoreline — instead of sinking awkwardly, you pop into swim mode and can surface cleanly.
If you want to keep gliding, stay above the water. The change only triggers on contact.
