Mindful Darkness Mod FAQ

Open the mod's config screen from the in-game mod list or through your mod menu's config button. You can also toggle dark mode directly in-game with its keybind without opening the full settings.

Use the mod's toggle keybind while in-game to switch dark mode on or off instantly. The change applies to menus you open afterward, so you don't need to restart.

Mindful Darkness only darkens textures it's allowed to affect, so check your texture filter list and make sure the GUI you're looking at isn't excluded. Some screens from other mods may also use custom rendering that the darkening pass doesn't cover.

Open the mod's settings and adjust the darkness intensity slider to your liking. Lower values keep menus closer to vanilla, higher values make them darker.

Each algorithm darkens textures in a different way, so they produce different tones and contrast on the same GUI. Try each one on a menu you use often and pick the one that looks best to you.

Use the mod's texture control system to exclude that texture or screen from the darkening pass. Add it to the exclusion list in the settings so it stays at its original brightness.

Lower the darkness intensity or switch to a different darkening algorithm, since some algorithms preserve text contrast better than others. If only one menu is affected, exclude that texture from darkening instead.

It generally works alongside other mods because it darkens rendered textures rather than replacing them, but mods with heavily custom-rendered screens may not darken correctly. If a screen looks wrong, exclude it or lower the intensity.

The darkening is applied to GUI rendering, so the impact is on menu drawing rather than world rendering. If you notice slowdowns in menus, try a simpler algorithm or reduce the number of affected textures.

Most changes like intensity, algorithm, and toggling dark mode apply immediately without a restart. Texture filter changes may need you to reopen the affected menu to see the effect.
