Recognize Mimic Chests

Mimics spawn only from unopened loot chests in specific structures: strongholds, mineshafts, ancient cities, nether fortresses, bastions, and pyramids. Not every chest will be a mimic—each has a random chance to transform when opened. Chests you've already looted remain safe, and double chests are never mimics.

Preparation Strategies

Before opening structure chests, equip yourself with combat gear and weapons. Bring healing items like food or potions since a mimic will immediately attack. Consider bringing a shield for protection.

If you want to minimize surprises, open chests from a distance using a bow or magic, or approach cautiously with your weapon ready. Some players prefer the danger and keep their gear on hand at all times while exploring.

Safe Looting

Chests in your own base are completely safe—mimics only spawn from naturally generated structure chests. This means your storage rooms and personal builds will never have surprises. You can safely store and organize loot without worry.
