Mimics Overhaul Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do mimics spawn in chests I've already looted?
No. The mod checks whether a chest contains new loot before converting it to a mimic, so chests you've already opened will never spawn mimics on subsequent visits.
Can mimics spawn from chests in my base?
No. Player-placed chests are ignored by the mod, so you can safely store items at your base without worrying about surprise mimic encounters.
What structures have mimic chests?
Mimics can spawn in chests found in strongholds, mineshafts, ancient cities, nether fortresses, bastions, and pyramids.
How do I change how often mimics spawn?
Edit the mod's settings file (usually in your world or config folder) to adjust the spawn chance percentage for mimic encounters.
Do double chests turn into mimics?
No. Double chests are excluded from mimic conversion to prevent unexpected behavior, so you only need to worry about single chests.
What happens when I open a mimic chest?
The chest transforms into a mimic monster that you must fight; the loot inside becomes the mimic's drops when defeated.
Can I prepare for mimics before opening chests?
Yes. You can approach structure chests cautiously with armor and weapons equipped, or use the mod's settings to lower spawn rates if you prefer less danger.
Do mimics respawn in the same chest?
No. Once you've defeated a mimic or looted its chest, that specific chest won't spawn another mimic on future visits.
Does this mod work with other mods that add loot?
The mod targets vanilla structure chests, so it should work alongside most mods; check compatibility notes if you're using mods that heavily modify loot tables.
Can I hunt mimics on purpose for practice or drops?
Yes. You can deliberately seek out structure chests in mimic-enabled locations and set higher spawn rates in the config to create combat encounters.
