Milking Llamas, Horses, Donkeys, and Mules

Taming Matters

Llamas, horses, donkeys, and mules are tamable mobs, and Milk All The Mobs lets you milk them once they are yours. An untamed horse or donkey will buck you off and refuse interaction, and an untamed llama may spit at you. Tame the animal first by repeatedly mounting it (for horses, donkeys, mules) or by feeding it (for llamas) until hearts appear.

Milking Procedure

1. Tame the animal so it shows hearts and no longer throws you off.

2. Make sure the animal is an adult — foals cannot be milked.

3. Hold an empty bucket in your main hand.

4. Right-click the animal.

5. A Milk Bucket appears in your inventory.

For llamas, you may need to be the owner (the player who tamed it) for the milking to succeed. If a llama is part of a caravan, it still works as long as it is tamed.

Common Problems

  • Nothing happens: you are holding the wrong item, the animal is a baby, or it is not tamed.
  • Horse runs away: tame it fully before trying; an untamed horse will not accept the bucket.
  • Mule: mules cannot breed, but they can still be tamed and milked like donkeys.

Once tamed, these animals become a reliable mobile milk source on long journeys.
