How to Combine Riptide, Channeling, and Loyalty on a Trident

The trident problem

Riptide, Channeling, and Loyalty cannot normally coexist — Riptide in particular blocks the other two. Merge Enchantments removes that restriction so your trident can return when thrown, summon lightning in storms, and launch you through water or rain.

Merging the three

1. Obtain a trident with one of the enchantments, plus enchanted books or donor tridents for the others.

2. Use an anvil: trident in the left slot, book/donor in the right slot. Confirm each merge one at a time.

3. Add Impaling and Unbreaking last, since they are not mutually exclusive and just raise the XP cost.

4. Verify the tooltip shows all three lines before you rely on it in combat.

Behavior to expect

  • Loyalty makes the trident return after a throw.
  • Channeling triggers a lightning strike on a hit during a thunderstorm.
  • Riptide only activates when you are wet (in water or rain) and spins you forward instead of throwing the trident. Because Riptide changes the throw into a launch, you will not get the normal thrown-trident behavior while wet — but the other enchantments remain on the item and work when conditions allow.

Tip

If the anvil becomes too expensive, combine the enchantment books with each other first, then apply the single combined book to the trident.
