Merge Enchantments Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I combine enchantments that normally can't go together?
Put both enchanted items (or an enchanted book and an item) into an anvil and combine them like any normal anvil operation. The mod removes the vanilla exclusivity check, so incompatible enchantments like Silk Touch and Fortune will merge onto one item.
Do I need to enable anything in the config for merging to work?
Basic merging of normally-incompatible enchantments works out of the box. The config option combineEnchantments is a separate toggle that lets you apply enchantments to items that normally can't be enchanted at all, such as a grass block or a cake.
What does combineEnchantments actually do?
When set to true in merge_enchantments-common.json, it allows enchantments to be applied to any item, not just the ones vanilla considers enchantable. Leave it false if you only want to merge enchantments on normal gear.
How do I stop a specific enchantment from being combined?
Use the blackList option in the config file to list enchantments you don't want merged. Anything you add there will be excluded from the mod's combining behavior.
Can I put all three Protection types on one piece of armor?
Yes. Combine the armor pieces or books on an anvil and the mod will let Protection, Fire Protection, Blast Protection, and Projectile Protection all sit on the same piece.
Can I get Infinity and Mending on the same bow?
Yes, that's one of the mod's main use cases. Anvil the two enchanted books (or a bow and a book) together and both enchantments will end up on the bow.
Does this mod let me put Riptide, Channeling, and Loyalty on one trident?
Yes. The mod removes the mutual exclusivity between these trident enchantments, so you can anvil them together onto a single trident.
Where is the config file and what's it called?
It's merge_enchantments-common.json, located in the config folder inside your .minecraft directory. Edit it with a text editor and restart the game for changes to take effect.
Why can't I combine my enchantments even with the mod installed?
Check that the enchantment isn't listed in the blackList in the config, and make sure you're using an anvil with enough XP levels. If combineEnchantments is false, you also can't apply enchantments to items that vanilla doesn't allow.
Will combining incompatible enchantments cost more XP than normal?
The anvil still applies its usual prior-work penalty and level cost based on the enchantments involved, so stacking many enchantments can get expensive. The mod only removes the incompatibility restriction, not the anvil's XP cost.
