How to Combine Protection Enchantments on a Single Piece of Armor

Why the vanilla anvil refuses

In vanilla Minecraft, Protection, Fire Protection, Blast Protection, and Projectile Protection are mutually exclusive. The anvil will only keep one. Merge Enchantments removes that restriction, so you can stack all four on one chestplate, leggings, or boots.

Step-by-step

1. Gather the enchantments you want. You can either find them on separate pieces of armor or pull them from enchanted books.

2. Place the target armor piece in the left slot of an anvil and the first enchanted book (or donor armor) in the right slot.

3. Confirm the merge. Repeat with each remaining Protection variant, feeding one book at a time into the anvil.

4. Because each anvil operation still costs XP and may raise the "Too Expensive" counter, do the cheapest merges first and save the highest-level book for last. If the anvil locks you out, use a grindstone on a fresh donor item or combine books together before touching the armor.

5. Check the tooltip: all four Protection lines should now appear on the same item.

Tips

  • Apply Unbreaking and Mending before or after — order does not matter for the merge itself.
  • If you only want some of the protections, the mod's config lets you exclude specific enchantments from being combined, so you can keep, for example, only Fire and Blast Protection.
