How to Compare Memory Usage Between Worlds, Mods, or Settings

Why Compare

Different worlds, modpacks, and graphics settings all consume memory differently. The title bar readout lets you measure those differences directly, so you can decide which mod or setting is worth the cost.

A Simple Comparison Method

1. Pick a repeatable action — for example, standing still in the same spot for one minute after loading.

2. Note the used-memory figure in the title bar at the end of that minute.

3. Change one variable: disable a mod, lower render distance, or switch to a different world.

4. Repeat the exact same action and note the new figure.

5. Compare the two numbers. The difference tells you roughly how much that variable costs in memory.

What to Compare

  • Worlds: A fresh superflat world versus an old survival world shows how much stored terrain and entities cost.
  • Mods: Toggling a single heavy mod on and off isolates its footprint.
  • Settings: Render distance and simulation distance usually have the largest effect on memory use.

Tips

Always let the game settle before reading the number, since memory usage fluctuates right after loading. Run each comparison more than once, because a single reading can be misleading. Keep the maximum allocation the same across tests so the comparison is fair.
