Why MAtmos Is Silent in Some Areas (And How to Fix It)

MAtmos is reactive: it only plays sounds that match your current environment. That means silence is often correct behavior, not a bug. Before troubleshooting, check whether the area genuinely has nothing to trigger — a flat plains biome at noon with clear weather may only have faint wind.

Check the obvious causes

First confirm the MAtmos engine is enabled and its master volume is not at zero. Then check that a sound pack is actually loaded; an empty or failed pack produces no audio at all. If you recently changed resource packs, reload them so MAtmos re-reads its sound list. Finally, make sure your normal Minecraft master volume is up, since MAtmos output still passes through the game's audio.

Test in a sound-rich location

Go somewhere the mod is known to react: underground in a cave, inside a forest at night, near water, or during rain. If you hear ambience there but not in your base, the mod is working and simply has nothing to play indoors. MAtmos distinguishes indoor and outdoor spaces, so a fully enclosed room can legitimately be quiet.

When it is genuinely broken

If no location produces any sound, disable and re-enable the engine, then reload the pack. If it stays dead, remove and reinstall the sound pack folder. Persistent silence across all environments usually points to a missing or corrupted pack rather than the mod itself.
