Use 3D Maps with Shaders

Shader Compatibility

Maps3D works with most Iris shader packs, allowing your 3D terrain displays to benefit from enhanced lighting, shadows, and visual effects. The 3D models render within the shader pipeline, receiving the same atmospheric and lighting treatment as your surrounding world.

Enable Shader Effects

Simply load your preferred Iris shader pack as normal. The 3D maps will automatically integrate with the shader's lighting system. Mountains cast shadows, water reflects light, and terrain gains depth through the shader's normal mapping and lighting calculations.

Optimize Shader Performance

Some shader packs are more demanding than others. If combining 3D maps with shaders causes framerate issues, try:

  • Lowering the quality preset in the map settings menu
  • Reducing the Y-level range displayed on each map
  • Switching to a lighter shader pack
  • Using the global disable option to test performance

Visual Enhancement

Shaders make 3D maps particularly striking—terrain gains realistic depth through shadows and lighting. Experiment with different shader packs to find the visual style that best complements your 3D map displays.
