Magic Combat Spellbooks Data Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need Better Combat installed for this to work?
Yes, this data pack requires Better Combat to function, as it adds custom attack animations that integrate with Better Combat's swing system. Without Better Combat, the special combos and attack patterns won't appear.
Which spell mods are supported?
The data pack adds animations for weapons from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, Hazen n Stuff, Crystal Chronicles, Ozymandias' Sundries, and Magic From The East. Each mod's weapons get their own distinct attack patterns.
How do dual-wield combos work?
Many weapons change their attack pattern when you hold a second item in your off-hand, creating different combo sequences than when wielding them alone. For example, Twilight Gale swings a four-hit sequence solo but only two hits when dual-wielding.
Why does my weapon not have the special attacks?
Make sure you're holding a weapon that's listed in the mod's features—not all magic weapons get custom animations. Also verify that Better Combat is installed and enabled, as the data pack depends on it.
Can I use this with other combat mods?
This data pack is designed specifically for Better Combat, so compatibility with other combat overhaul mods is not guaranteed and may cause conflicts or disable the custom animations.
Do the attack patterns change based on weapon enchantments?
No, the combo sequences are fixed per weapon and don't vary based on enchantments, though enchantment effects like fire or knockback will still apply during the attacks.
What's the difference between a one-handed and two-handed combo?
One-handed combos are shorter and faster, while two-handed combos typically have more hits and include heavier strikes like slams or spins. Some weapons like Paladin Sword have completely different attack strings depending on whether you're dual-wielding.
Do I need to do anything special to activate the combos?
No setup required—just equip a supported weapon and swing normally with Better Combat enabled. The custom attack patterns trigger automatically as part of your regular combat swings.
Will this affect my performance or FPS?
The data pack only adds animation data and doesn't introduce new entities or heavy processing, so performance impact should be minimal on most systems.
Can I use this in multiplayer?
Yes, as long as all players on the server have both Better Combat and this data pack installed, everyone will see the custom attack animations consistently.
