How to Stop Trackpad Momentum Scrolling from Flying Through Your Hotbar
Mac trackpads use momentum (inertia) scrolling, which sends a burst of scroll events after you lift your fingers. In Minecraft this makes the hotbar or inventory selection jump wildly. The MacOS Input Fixes Mod adjusts trackpad scrolling so events are consistent and only counted while your fingers are actually on the trackpad.
Tuning your scroll behavior
1. Open macOS System Settings → Trackpad → Scroll & Zoom and reduce or disable inertia where possible.
2. In-game, open Options → Controls → Mouse Settings and lower the scroll sensitivity slider to a comfortable value.
3. Test by scrolling through your hotbar slowly, then with a quick flick. The selection should stop when your fingers leave the pad instead of coasting.
Why momentum scrolling is the culprit
Momentum scrolling keeps generating scroll deltas after the physical gesture ends. The mod filters these so only genuine finger-on-trackpad input counts, preventing the runaway selection. If you use a mouse with a supported API, the same filtering applies, so a single wheel notch equals a single slot change.
If scrolling still overshoots
- Disable any third-party trackpad utilities that inject their own scroll events.
- Avoid stacking multiple input-fixing mods, which can double-filter and cause stutter.
- Re-test after a game restart so the mod re-reads your trackpad state.
